"Matilda" was inspired by a cute little shotgun house around the corner from where I live in New Orleans. This style house is pretty typical in the area, and so is the empty lot that I'm representing. New Orleans, still recovering from decades of heavy hitting storms and hurricanes, is dotted with empty lots and what most consider blight. However, I like to think of the empty lots as breathing room - giving space to whatever may still exist on any given block and allowing it to standout. That's what I hoped to capture here with my Matilda.
